Only a year after the release of Alpha, Sevendust are back with their seventh studio release titled Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow. On Alpha it seemed the band finally remembered they had the ability to start a mosh pit, and would banish thoughts of commercial appeal for good. Then there was Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow, which finds the dust of seven having musical relapses with a few questionable guest appearances. J-Man and Double C dive head first into the latest but hardly the greatest Sevendust album. Does Chapter VII: Hope and Sorrow have enough to keep the faith, or is this the end of the line for fans of Home and Animosity? Take a listen and find out.

Absolutely incredible album.
I’ve been a fan since Home and have to say that I was starting to think they weren’t going to release something as strong as that album or its follow up Animosity again… possibly attributed to the fact Clint Lowery was no longer in the group who was obviously a strong link in the 7Dust chain.
But here we have Hope and Sorrow which completely blows any doubts away (then re-enter Lowery… go figure!?). H&S displays wonderful musicianship without sacrificing their signature heavy riffing and delivery.
Check out Inside, Scapegoat, Fear or Walk Away for some bruising Dust, or for some softer moments try The Past (featuring Chris Daughtry would you believe) or Sorrow (featuring the mighty guest vocals of Myles Kennedy)… To hell with the naysayers, whatever reason you want to believe the guys featured these guests (and a Mark Tremonti solo on Hope), they bloody work and work WELL!
After the slightly missed direction of Next and the ‘too much of a good thing’ (too heavy too often!) Alpha, the band have released what quite possibly could be their best effort to date.
Highly recommended!
