Awful Human Being’s Week 14 Picks

The final week of the college football season is here, and wow what a ride it’s been. Outside of my Irish being used like an extra in a porno, I haven’t had as much fun watching college football in my life. I also have had a tremendous time writing this column for you, and love me or hate me; I hope you at least enjoyed reading it.

The Heisman race is officially down to three guys. Tebow, McFadden, and Daniel. That’s it, that’s the end of the list. Nobody else can pass go or collect $200. With all three, you can make a tremendous argument for.

Tebow – Nobody in college football history has ever come close to what he’s done in the SEC. He’s got over 20 touchdowns rushing and passing. He’s played hurt all year long, and has kept Florida from doing a complete belly flop. He’s been consistent and is the team’s offense. Simply incredible in every way.

McFadden – The back from Arkansas has transformed the way coaches approach offensive AND defensive play-calling in the SEC. Tennessee designated THREE guys to spy McFadden the whole game, meaning they were playing eight on ten on the defensive side of the football. He’s simply the most electric player in college football today.

Daniel – Daniel is the field general of the most exciting aerial assault since our “Shock and Awe” campaign in Iraq a few years back. Does he have the numbers of a Colt Brennan or Graham Harrell? No, but he goes downfield more, and has better physical tools than both of them. It also helps that he’s going to be playing for a shot at the national championship this weekend. IF he single-handedly destroys Oklahoma, which is possible, he’s put himself right into the thick of things with the other two. As of right now though, he’s in a not-so-distant third place.

Since there are only 17 games on the docket this week, I just went ahead and listed them. Notice that the first game is the best rivalry in all of college football, the Army/Navy game. Ohio State and Michigan is a very close second place, but the symbolism of this game is what makes college football the greatest American sport. None of these guys are going to be playing in the NFL, in fact, in a few months some of them are going to be in Iraq and Afghanistan, just so you and I can sleep easy at night, and assholes like me can write whatever the hell I want.

As always, the home team is in caps.

Navy over ARMY
MISSOURI over Oklahoma
WEST VIRGINIA over Pittsburgh
LSU over Tennessee
Virginia Tech over BOSTON COLLEGE
USC (Home Team) over UCLA
HAWAII over Washington
ARIZONA STATE over Arizona
OREGON over Oregon State
Fresno State over New Mexico State
CENTRAL MICHIGAN over Miami (OH)
UCF over Tulsa
TROY over Florida Atlantic
NEVADA over Louisiana Tech
Brigham Young over SAN DIEGO STATE
North Texas over FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL
Cal over STANFORD

Again, thanks for reading this season. I look forward to tormenting all of you much more when I turn my focus towards college basketball and the NBA. Don’t worry; it will also soon be spring, as my Red Sox get ready to defend their World Series Championship … with a top three of Johan Santana, Josh Beckett, and the National Treasure Daisuke Matsuzaka. I don’t know about you, but having Curt Schilling as my fourth starter gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

  1. I am willing to bet that Johan Santana pitches for the Twins or the Yankees this year…because if the Sox give up Jacoby for him, they are nuts…they have enough good pitching but Jacoby is the centerfielder and lead off hitter…don’t want to lose your table setter…but maybe they will give something else up, but I would only do it if Johan signed a long term contract with them…don’t want to lose any good young guys, for a pitcher who is only there for 1 year…

  2. Wooooooo! What’s up, Bayou? See you in a month. I’ve been drinking and dancing in my underwear for an hour now, but let’s get serious. Why is everyone acting so pissed off on Sportscenter. Was this not the most fun thing ever? Wasn’t this season awesome?!?!? I just watched Pitt v WVU and CARED! What the fuck? What am I missing? Sure, OSU sneaks in again, but even if they didn’t I wouldn’t have cared. It would have been their fault. What am I missing here? What is so bad about the BCS? It is unique, it makes the regular season the most fun regular season on earth, and it demands perfection. Oh, you feel bad for Georgia? Maybe they shouldn’t have lost by 90 points to Tenn earlier in the year. This shit counts, folks. OSU wouldn’t be shitting in your cereal right now if SIX other teams didn’t lose in 3 weeks!!!! I’m just tired of everyone’s bitching. They are 11-1!!!! This shit is awesome. It’s great fun. If you want to win a championship, schedule tough teams, don’t lose, and don’t lose when it’s all on the line. OSU didn’t do those things, but neither did anyone else - OSU just did less of them to an extreme. We won our conference and lost 1 game - in a semi-rebuilding year. Eventually this system will change and everyone will be so fucking happy even though it is not as fun. This is AMATEUR football folks. Let’s not act all dramatic like Scott Van Pelt and pretend like life or death is on the line. This shit rocks. But until everyone’s bitching fucks up the BCS, I’m drunk, dancing and flipping everyone off. OSU’s No.1. Woooooooo!!!! Fuck yourselves.

  3. Also, OSU should be playing Oklahoma. They just won their conference and beat the #1 team in the country. LSU has looked shit for 4 weeks now, almost losing to piece of shit Alabama, and almost losing to piece of shit Tennessee. They play undisciplined and sloppy. I’m not impressed. BUT, they did beat Va Tech by like 50, which damns Va Tech from the argument. USC lost to Stanford. Enough said. Ohhh, they’re hot now? Tough shit. That was an embarrassing loss. Eat my dick. The championship is OSU v Oklahoma. But it won’t happen because everyone acts like this system is so hard to figure out and unfair when it’s actually not these things. If you think for one fucking second, The BCS can make sense. Georgia and Kansas lost their conference - fuck off. LSU lost down the stretch and beat a nobody in the SEC championship - fuck off. Hawaii - please - plus they are losing by 3 TDs to Washington - fuck off. USC- Stanford - enough said - fuck off. OSU beat Michigan, won the Big Ten and only has one loss. Oklahoma beat the No. 1 ranked team and won their conference. OSU v Oklahoma. But it won’t happen because the SEC is awesome. I forgot about that. Despite any contrary evidence, the SEC is awesome - and OSU gets to play an away game against LSU for the title. Cute. It will be fun to watch some of these teams play in bowl games in Big Ten country though… oh wait, that NEVER happens. I forgot that too. But hey, tough shit right? That;s how it works. If OSU loses in a month, which is highly likely, then THEY lost. No argument.

Seriously though, isn’t this ridiculously fun? Go Bucks.

  4. Well last year had Florida not won the SEC Championship, Michigan would have played OSU for the national title, having not won their conference…in 2001 Nebraska played for a national championship without winning their conference…Georgia did win the SEC East, they just tied with Tennessee and lost via tiebreaker…I would much rather see Georgia vs OSU then LSU vs OSU…LSU hasn’t played well lately and Georgia is playing superb football…but it won’t happen…this season is the one when we really should have a playoff…oh well, it’s been a very exciting season…

  5. also, 2003 Oklahoma played in the national title game without winning their conference…

I just hope it’s not LSU that plays OSU because I think OSU will beat LSU easily…Beanie Wells can have the same type of day that McFadden had…I want to see the best game possible damn it…

  6. I can understand that… but I go back to what I rambled about earlier - the whole season matters. This is not a new thing. Georgia has no one to blame bu themselves. I do agree that they are better than LSU though, especially right now. Who knows, maybe they’ll make it. All I know is every team lost when it mattered, so it’s up to the voters - and I’m fine with it. You lose, you get picked apart- it’s out of your hands. If everyone wants to “fix this” maybe they should get voters who aren’t dumbasses to vote - you know since these voters always get it wrong.

I personally think the criteria should be 1.Who’d you play 2.How many losses? 3.Win your conference. No team really accomplished any of these with great ease - so whatever happens, happens. I think Georgia should play USC in the Rose Bowl - now there’s a good fucking game,. right? That’s why we have 400 bowls, to watch good games. SEC v Pac10. I like it. So what if it’s the “coulda-shoulda” bowl. It’s a good game.

  7. this is what I want to have happen

NC OSU vs Georgia because thats the best game I think

Sugar LSU vs Oklahoma who doesn’t want to see these 2 play

Orange Va Tech vs WVU border rivalry that doesn’t get played anymore

Rose USC vs Kansas won’t be a good game but oh welll

Fiesta Arizona St vs Hawaii best game for both teams

this is what I think will happen though

NC OSU vs LSU bastards, lost 2 times late in the year and still get in there

Sugar WVU vs Georgia rematch of a few years ago of a very good game

    Fiesta Arizona St vs Hawaii

Rose USC vs Oklahoma make the super powers play

    Orange Va Teach vs Kansas

Kansas is the odd team here, I don’t think they are good enough to play against any of these teams

  8. As much as i think OSU isnt one of the top two teams in the NCAA, what else could they do? A team sits 3rd in BCS and only had only had one loss while top two teams lost. I think LSU is a top two team. Win the hardest division in NCAA and had two losses, both in triple OT. I think it should be LSU and Oklahoma, but i think it will be OSU and LSU.

  9. After clearing the vomit out of my mouth from Ohio State once again sneaking into the national championship game, I’ve got some thoughts.

Crowell is right, this season has been fantastic, and we had better be thankful and hopeful that more seasons like this come along. This has been the best season of college football of my life to watch … purely as a fan of the sport.

We all know my Irish just sucked balls, but I’ve attempted to block that out of my memory.

I don’t even care anymore if Ohio State wins the national championship, this has just been the greatest season of college football EVER!

Congrats to LSU and OSU for surviving to the finish.

  10. Saw*Kick maxim #5 - A Double C and AHB agreement of opinion equals a scientific fact.

  11. sad part is I agree with you guys too…this has been the most fantastic season ever, watching all the teams fall to unranked teams or not being able to hold onto their spot…it’s been a hell of a season, now the only way to finish it, is for LSU and OSU to play 25 overtimes in the Championship game…

Let's hear what you have to say:
